Jonathan Pollard, after 30 years in prison – VaYetze

Jonathan Pollard is the only American ever to receive a life sentence for passing classified information to an ally of the U.S.

Iy”H, on November 20, 2015 Pollard will be released on parole after 30 years. Interestingly enough, it falls out on the Torah reading of Parshat “VaYetze” which is translated as “And He Went Out”. (-:

End of Days – The face of the dog generation

PneiHaKelev
A famous interpretation of the Gemara is brought down by the Chofetz Chaim zt”l, who explains that it is the way of a dog to chase after the stick and not after the master who is controling the stick.
So too the final generation before the Mashiach comes, will also chase after the stick. The generation will have great hardships and challenges, but instead of looking up, and calling out to the Master (i.e. G-d), and changing their ways, they will instead, chase after the stick, and come up with various excuses and other people to blame as to why things are happening this way and by doing so, never getting to the root of the cause.

May we all be zoche to look up to our Master, call out to Him and straighten our ways for the good!

How to get water out of a rock…

sela

In this weeks parsha, Chukat,  “G-d tells Moses to speak to the rock and water will come forth” (Numbers 20:8) I believe, it’s the Gaon of Vilna who points out something fascinating.  If you take the 3 letters that make up the word “SELA” (Eng. rock) – Samech, Lamed and Ayin and you spell out each letter by itself, you will discover that the Middle letters are Mem, Mem and Yud. The letters which make up the word “Mayim”(Eng. water)

This works using the Hebrew letters of course, as presented in the above graphic.
